Final Reflection

1. What have I learnt in this module

In this Design Principles module, I’ve deepened my understanding of compositional techniques like contrast, harmony, and layering. Through projects merging Monet’s art with my photography, I mastered tools like layer masking and color grading to blend classical aesthetics with modern visuals. I also explored how design principles can evoke narrative depth, such as using light-shadow contrasts to create a sense of time travel.

2. What did I enjoy the most

I loved experimenting with digital collage techniques to reimagine classic art. The process of integrating Monet’s figures into my lake photography allowed me to bridge realism and impressionism, which felt both technically challenging and creatively fulfilling. Seeing the final result—a harmonious blend of my personal vision and art history—was incredibly rewarding.

3. What did I not enjoy the most

Balancing technical precision (e.g., aligning shadows between scenes) with artistic intuition was frustrating at times. Overcoming software limitations, like ensuring smooth color transitions, required trial-and-error that tested my patience.

4. What have I learnt about myself through this module

I discovered a passion for cross-disciplinary art—melding photography with painting. I also realized I thrive in iterative processes, refining designs through feedback. While I initially hesitated to deviate from realistic compositions, pushing boundaries taught me to trust bold creative choices.

5. What has changed and what has not in my learning journey

My technical skills in Photoshop and design theory have grown significantly, especially in compositional storytelling. However, my core interest in blending natural landscapes with symbolic elements (like the Monet figure) remains unchanged—it’s what drives my creative voice.

6. What aspiration

Moving forward, I aim to specialize in art historical reimaginations using digital tools. I’d love to explore how other painters’ styles (e.g., Van Gogh’s textures) can interact with contemporary photography, creating works that challenge perceptions of time and art’s evolution.
